For the Joy Set Before You

Tags: joy, trials, suffering, hope

Today, I am remembering a valuable lesson that I have been learning over the last few years as the Lord has really been stretching and changing me. This verse really sums it up:

Heb 12:1 let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame

Jesus didn't enjoy being crucified on a cross, He endured it. Why? For the joy set before Him. What was the joy set before Him? The glory that would be birthed out of His current suffering, His bride! And we, who trust in Him, are His bride! If Jesus endured that kind of torture for us, I think He might like us a little, don't you think?!!

God isn't into suffering for suffering sake, but Jesus gives our suffering so much purpose and hope as we go through it. Because in this world we will have tribulation!

2 Co 4:16-18 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

So in every stretching, hard, uncomfortable, painful situation that I am in, I can remember these verses and stoke the flames of hope that burn inside by thinking of the glory and joy that will be birthed out of these light momentary afflictions! I strongly believe that this hope will not disappoint us and it will give us the strength and comfort we need to make it through the afflictions!
